Board Goals
The Berlin Board of Education will:

Maintain broad, rigorous performance standards in all areas of curriculum that facilitate independent critical thinking and strategic problem solving among students.
- Engage our community through effective communication utilizing a multitude of means that reach all stakeholders.
- Develop and adopt a responsible, fiscal annual budget, develop and maintain a ten-year capital plan encompassing both facility maintenance and technology equipment to ensure that the ever-changing educational needs of students are met, and provide feedback and oversight to fiscal decisions.
Objectives for 2020-21 School Year
Community Engagement Committee
- Publish columns in the Berlin Citizen on a relevant schedule.
- Develop a social media presence for the Board of Education to provide timely information about district initiatives and events.
- Develop additional strategies to provide information to the Berlin community, including the use of videotaped messages highlighting the work of the district.
Curriculum Committee
- Meet with representatives of the math department to learn about proposed changes in the sequence of math courses and offerings
- Meet with Jean Borrup, EL Coordinator, to learn more about the growing number of English learners in the district, and the services provided to meet their needs
- Meet with reading and math interventionists to learn more about their coaching and intervention work.
Finance and Operations Committee
- Review current budget process, including input from stakeholders, and make recommendations for changes/improvements as necessary.
- Determine best model for coordination with Town on capital, building, and site budgeting to support effective long-range planning.
